Captain Levana spotted two Marusi guards emerging from the closest bubble, utterly dwarfed by the structure. As they marched nearer, the tips of their Deepset Coral spears reflected into her eyes. The captain held her ground and greeted the Marusi with a glistening smile as they halted.

They stood as tall as Wolven, with droplets of water glimmering on their blue skin. Their clawed, webbed hands gripped the elegant harpoon-type spears they carried, and their feet splayed out on the ground. Swishing their long, slender tails behind them they stared and spoke in a dialect only the captain understood. “Hva eresk suktil Alkra?” The male guard’s voice was rough and grating.

Levana admired the long, sky-blue fur shrouding their shoulders. She stepped closer and stared at the closed gills on their slender necks.

The guards readied their spears, preventing her from advancing further.

“Relax, we are messengers of…” She hesitated, glancing at the troops. “We’re messengers of King Areth III. He seeks your He’en’s allegiance.”

The guards stood at ease and then looked at each other through their large black eyes. The two slits on their faces flared open and closed as they breathed the salty air.

Captain Levana stepped forward again, more cautiously than before, and examined the strange creatures more closely. “It’s been an exceptionally long time since I last saw a Marusi. Your armour looks magnificent; it glimmers with the same sheen as the city itself!”

She lightly poked the fishlike scales that hugged their muscular bodies, held up by two crossed leather straps passing over their furry shoulders.

They each blinked two sets of eyelids. “Stol ce’ease,” growled the taller Marusi. Their elegant language was complex and had many words impossible to pronounce without gills.

This time, the female spoke in Captain Levana’s language. “Why would King Areth send a Forsaken messenger?”

Levana scoffed. “You are aware that Man and Forsaken are allies now? He trusts me. We wish to speak with the He’en. We have an offer—”

Another voice came from one of the King’s soldiers, “You liar!”

The captain bowed her head and rubbed her eyes with her thumb and forefinger. She sighed and turned her back on the Marusi guards.

“Why? Why was there any need for that—you dumb bastard? Men, kill these Marusi.” She stormed towards the soldier with a face of thunder. “I’m dealing with you myself.”

The Marusi reacted instantly, twirling their spears with immense skill and precision, as they fended off attacks from the charging Forsaken soldiers. King Areth’s men banded together and charged Levana as she unhooked her quick-blades.

The captain ran toward the advancing horses, blades ready to strike, and leapt into the middle of the warriors. She dragged her blades across two throats before her enemies had time to think. Blood gushed from the gashes and their bodies fell from their steeds with a thud.

She spun, twisted, and jumped with perfect precision. Hundreds of solar cycles of training brought expertise, as she parried and countered. Soon, eight of the men who charged her lay on the ground, dead. The ninth crawled away from her, blood cascading from a snapped elbow.
